Australian Fashion Week

I love fashion week. The beautiful creations that the designers bring to life are such a treat. However, outside the Lincoln Center is just as much as a show as inside, on the runway. The street style is mind blowing.


Now it's Australia's time in the sun. There is something to be said about the Aussie fashion scene. It is similar to that of North America's, however there seems  to always be some sort of twist to it. One of my fav blogger's, tuula, is from Australia.


Harper's Bazaar just recently posted a few pictures of some street style shots from Day 1 of fashion week that I felt I had to share with you : 

So chic in asymmetrical black and cut out heels.

I was instantly drawn to her tights and the peak-a-boo polka dot print

Bold colour palette and a bold print. Love.

I think this is my favourite of the grouping. 

The mini shorts + blouse looks so easy but very stylish.

You all know of my love of mixing prints. This is mixed prints heaven with a touch of lemon.

Matching bottoms? These minis seem to be a hit.

Leather drop crotch pants. Edge, but the blouse brings it back to lady land.

I don't know how to describe this, but I love it all the same.

Did you notice the hair style theme? Very bed headed ... Much different than that of our top knot that has become so popular. Hhhhhhhhmmmm some food for thought.

Blog Inspiration

A lot of people ask me why I started my blog and what inspired me. Well, here it is folks. It started a little while ago when I came across a blog called The Man Repeller. She had the wackiest style, but I loved every minute of it. From there, I caught the blogging bug and discovered more and more amazing women who had insane style that I wanted to duplicate. However, after seeing items over and over again that I either owned personally, or were in the store I figured I had what it took to start up my own blog.

As many of you already know, I am a Senior Buyer at a contemporary boutique in Halifax, NS. My #1 priority is to make sure the store is filled with up to date merchandise and on trend 24/7. This entitles a lot of research to have the "it" brands and looks available to my clientele.

This afternoon, one of my top stylist - Dustin, who currently writes the menswear column for Grease & Glamour, styled a shoot with our model. I wanted the look of the shoot to be edgy yet versatile so we can reach to a varying audience.

This above photo is a great example of how one piece can be worn two completely different ways. The Naven skirt can border on the girly side or can be sassed up as well.

Mmmmmm print on print. What more could you ask for?! I said in my last post, how much I love mixing prints. It just shows so much style and gives an incredible visual effect.

Tibi is hands down, one of my favourite ready to wear lines. As you've probably already seen my post of their Fall/Winter campaign. It's just brilliant, end of story. Just by sheer coincidence we received our last Spring delivery of Tibi the day before the shoot. Their prints are pure perfection.

Beauty Favs

When it comes to makeup I am a lost cause. It wasn't until just recently I discovered some amazing products that I now swear by.


Every time I went to apply makeup I always felt like I was reverted to my 12 year-old self playing in my mom's beauty products. However, after a few trips to the very helpful Giorgio Armani makeup counter in Montreal and some prodding into my friend's beauty regiments I found my daily go-tos that I could not live without.

(essential for us untannable gals)

(will make your lashes look like you're wearing extensions)

When people ask me what my own personal style is I freeze. Girly? Tom boy? Feminine? Edgy? Artistic? Trendy? I really don't know how to define my own style. But I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing.


In my line of work I'm exposed to every style and trend on the rainbow and I grow an appreciation for all of them so I can maximize my clienteles experience in the store. This has led my own wardrobe to have an identity crisis. You would never know what kind of girl belonged to it. 


I'm a firm believer in buying quality pieces however, I like to mix in some mainstream brands to help ease the cost of outfits. I found this Gap tee for $5 ... a steal ... you can't even buy a martini for that.

As a great example of variety compare the next outfit. This is what I wore to work today. The weather was acting like a monsoon so I wanted to be comfy. I LOVE mixing prints together. The more they clash the better they look in my books. In today's example it is cloud print and leopard print (my addiction I can't help it, it was inherited through my nanny). The House of Harlow locket and bangle are classic go-tos in my jewellery box. I just purchased this Stella & Dot bracelet ... a key addition that I am very fond of. To finish the look I pulled on my Frye boots - which make every outfit bad ass.

A Closet Clean Out Clutter

Late last night I got the cleaning bug and then decided I had absolutely nothing in my closet(s) and rolling rack(s). Yes I have multiple closets and a rolling rack - situated smack dab in the middle of my room. When people come into my room, I feel like an over eater whose secret stash of ho-hos were just discovered.


After I started purging, and purging and purging some more I asked myself : how did you get to this point? Because. when I bought these items I had justified them. "I need this.""I have nothing like this.""This is so on trend, it's a must have." "It will go with everything." And my personal fav reasoning, "it's classic, I'll have it forever." But alas, after all that shopaholic reasoning (remember the scene in Confessions of a Shopaholic?!),

I am left with a massive pile that is ready to be packed off and shipped to a local consignment store ... some with the tags still attached. YIKES!


Once I cleaned out a good portion of my over sized collection another underlying problem came to light. My actual really good, investment pieces that do fit my irrational thinking outlined above are hidden amongst a sea of impulse purchases that should've been left in the fitting rooms or online shopping cart.


I am making a pledge, going forward I will only purchase very thought out items that I know I will get my cost per wear. What is cost per wear you might ask? Well, say you purchase a winter coat and invest quit a lot of funds into it but you wear it every day of the season. At the end of the winter you will have spent very little per wear and therefore, got your moneys worth. On the other hand, say you have a special event and pay the exact same for a dress than you would've for that winter coat. The flip side here, is that you only wear that dress once. Therefore, your cost per wear is much higher. Priorities, priorities, priorities ladies.


After saying all that, I must share with you my latest purchase! I have been scouring high and low for flats. Not just any flats, but the perfect pair. Neutral enough to wear with multiple outfits, but special enough that add a pop to any outfit. I wasn't prepared to spend an arm and a leg for these puppies either as I am very hard on my shoes. But last night, I came across a pair that caught my eyes ...

These little babies are the MAGPIE2 Toecap Pointed Shoes from TopShop. While I am a firm believer of supporting local business, I find shoe shopping almost near impossible in Halifax so I normally end up purchasing online.


I am crossing my fingers that I have turned over a new leaf in purchasing habits ... until my willpower takes a day off ... again. Foreign Affair did just receive the Rebecca Minkoff Mini 5 Zip in Neon Yellow... No! Bad Lindsay!

Weekend Style Fun

This weekend was full of outfit changes for me. But my fav was the one above where I'm striking a pose with one of my best girlfriends, Katharine. You've probably noticed I don't have any photos of myself posted. This is due to my lack of camera. It sadly died in a tragic Las Vegas accident last May, which I have yet to replace because I have more important things to spend my expendable income on ... such as nail polishes and shoes. 


I bought the dress as a present to myself last year for my 24th bday "Happy Birthday Lindsay! Love Lindsay." Probably one of my all time loves in my closet. It's a silk, backless, leopard print number by BluMoon (I love this brand so much, I brought it in for Summer 2012 and will be available this week at FA on Barrington). The dress is so comfortable and I feel very confident in it. I topped it off with a crop jean jacket from Citizen's of Humanity and some whicked high wedges from Same Edelman.


Because the maxi is such a statement piece, I didn't want it to get lost under a head of flowy locks (my head of hair consists of half my body weight) so I decided to go with an up-do. I'm obsessed with the top bun look. It is a great hair style if you're pinched for time and can't wash your hair. Here's a quick how to:


- Pull your hair in a high pony tail (I'm talking 80's high pony) and secure with a clear hair elastic. 
- Now tease the crap out of it. 
- Next step, shape the teased mess around the hair elastic to form a bun.
- Finish with a few bobbie pins and hair spray to hold in place. 

Casual Friday - Denim Dilemma

TGIF,  it's the end to a work week and allows for a more relaxed dress code. Time to put away your monkey suits people and slip into a pair of denim.


When I worked in the corporate sector I always looked forward to Fridays because I could wear a pair jeans and felt so confident. Mind you, this was before I came into my love affair of fashion so I found it hard to feel good in corporate attire.


The Man Repeller did an awesome style piece for ELLE on how to translate your fashion sense to break the traditional 9-5 uniform.

I loved reading this as it totally inspired me to jazz up my "professional" wardrobe. Who says you can't rock a graphic tee to a luncheon?


That article needed its day in the sun, now back to casual Friday. No matter how lenient a dress code is, you are still representing a company. Jeans that you would wear while gardening and running sneakers are not appropriate choices ... even though you may think they fit within the dress code.


Go for dark wash denim. Any leg will do, but personally I prefer a clean 5 pocket skinny or a trouser cut. These silhouettes are classic and will get you through your day.

Just because the dress code is lowered, does not mean it is weekend fashion time. You never know when opportunity may knock and you don't want to be mistaken for janitor ... just sayin' 

Minty Love

Yesterday, my new J Crew minty green, cashmere cable knit sweater came in the mail! I felt like a little girl on Christmas opening my present from Santa. I obviously thought I needed to capitalize on a new item purchase (it was on sale too .. so I can barely contain my excitement) and wear it today. The sweater is super loose - I opted to go up a size to avoid any clingy-ness - so matching it with my boyfriend jeans really played up the look.

To avoid looking like Kanye West (Que flashback of Mr. West rocking the ladies Acne mint green knit), I threw on a pair of Sam Edelman wedges, some pink lipstick (Giorgio Armani - #507) and an electric blue polish (Essie - Aruba Nights).

I'm a big believer in over accessorizing, but today I kept it simple with the House of Harlow Chevron necklace and the Rebecca Minkoff Cupid in Bordeaux.

Transitional Issues

It's April in Nova Scotia, and that brings weather that is neither spring nor winter. It's 20 degrees one day and 5 the next. This leads to a very confused fashion sense. You'll see anything from flip-flops to parkas. I'm trying to blend both spring and winter fashions together to get a mix of both.

Today, I'm pairing my Tibi Normandy Print midi skirt (Shenae Grimes wore it to the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic last year... yeah, my skirt's famous), with a grey slub jersey tank top (tied at the side to give shape) and a crop denim jean jacket. I decided to wear my Dolce Vita booties because A. they're whicked comfy and B. they make the outfit more seasonal and less beach party-esk. Lastly, I put on my go-to House of Harlow Medallion locket for some bling. I feel very appropriate for this cloudy yet sunny and warm yet chilly April day.

Under My Coachella-ella-ella-eh! Fashion Scoop

As a follow up to my previous post, I wanted to share some of my fav looks from this weekend's attendees that I found via twitter, Facebook, instagram etc (yes I'm a social media junkie). 

@LateAfternoon : I love the pairing here. A maxi, printed crop top, plaid shirt, leather jacket, statement necklaces and a beautiful braid. It's masculine but the braid totally brings in a feminine touch.

@MarcMalkin :  Lea Michele and Lauren Conrad at the Lacoste Party. They both look so fresh in white. I'm loving Lauren's pop of colour.

@Rebecca Minkoff : So simple. And that hat ... perfection.

@MelMah : Singer Kat Graham in cut offs and a print tee ( Chaser perhaps?). 

@CHRISELLEtweets : One of my fav bloggers, Chriselle Lim in one of my fav outfits thus far.  A bright navaho inspired mini, with a printed/fringed tank and booties. So simple but covers pretty much every Coachella fashion trend.

DailyMail.com : Paris Hilton is over the top fab right here. She should win the award for Coachella princess ... and I mean that in a good way. Her maxi skirt is so colourful, the bustier top is just perfect and her statement necklace will be the envy of every fashion blogger out there. Love.
