Mom's Packing Essentials

The key statement pieces for her trip :
Citizen's of Humanity Mandy Floral jeans / Stuart Weitzman wedges /
Rag & Bone Bridget tank / Rebecca Minkoff Cupid in bone/ Dannijo bib /
Vince black silk blouse / Tibi pink tank / J Brand black jeans /
Sam Edleman sandals / Rebecca Minkoff Luscious Hobo /
Alice + Olivia wrap sweater / Current/Elliot boyfriend jeans

What is more time consuming, frustrating and uncertain than packing for a trip? Hhhhmmmm. Nothing. Take it from me, a well seasoned traveler, it is not easy. The one piece of advice I can give, is pack in outfits and plan, plan, plan. Don't just throw something in your suitcase because you like it. Make sure it has a buddy to make an outfit, and both pieces can form two other outfits.

Check the weather. What is the average high and low temperature? Is it normally rainy at that time of year? The more time you have to think about it, the better.  But crunch time comes a few days prior to departure .. when the weather forecast is pretty certain. I'm all about planning around the weather.

I learnt my lesson when I was in New York during market week in February. It rained constantly and all I had were a pair of leather knee high boots and a leather jacket to shield me from the elements. As you can probably figure out, I had to say bye-bye to those boots shortly after my trip :( And if you know me, you know of my severe hatred for perception - rain or snow. I despise it with every bone in my body.

Due to my experience mom put me in charge of planning her wardrobe for a 10 day vacation to West Palm last month. Step 1 was going through her current wardrobe to see what we're working with. After laying out her fav pieces she wanted to bring, we made a list of what was needed to fill the gaps.

Let's be honest, she has a fav store and it's called "Lindsay's Closet" where she visits frequently. So there were only a few pieces we needed to purchase before the big trip. I didn't want her to take 20 different outfits which equalled to 20 different pieces. We wanted 20 different outfits, but minimal pieces. This can be achieved by bringing versatile pieces to be worn for varying occasion.

For example, her black J Brands were the perfect day to night jean. She wore them in the day time with a basic tee, or her new fav Rag & Bone tank then at night, put on a silk blouse, a jewelled bib and voila - fashion functional! And she looked like a million bucks :)

In the end, mumsie never had as many compliments on any vacation towards her wardrobe. And her suitcase was not filled to the brim so, conveniently, she was able to bring home lots of goodies to her stylist and fav daughter ... ME!
